Green spot under acrylic nail. Pseudomonas nail infection can show up as small green spots anywhere on the nail plate. The bacteria nestles in the gap between the nail and nail bed where it produces a green pigment. Green nail syndrome is caused by infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
In itself jaundice is not a medical condition. When the acrylic nails are lifted or they are not fitted properly over the natural nails water gets in easily and thus it provides a breeding ground for the infection. But there is good news.
When not treated properly this spot will continue to grow and cause some significant damage to the natural nail. The bacteria has grown because it has found a nice damp dark area to live and thrive. Patients likely have a history of prolonged exposure to water or detergents. The condition is usually confined to one or two nails and can involve fingernails or toenails.
The green discoloration varies from blue-green to dark green to bluish-grey. The treatment for green nails is to remove the enhancement and trim clean and disinfect the nail to kill the pseudomonas bacteria. Thats why its fairly common with acrylic nail treatments.
